2 years/6 semesters Fall, Winter, Summer Ontario College Diploma Morningside<br />

With various intakes throughout the year, this program will immerse you in nursing as you gain<br />

in-depth knowledge, skills and judgement for today’s multifaceted health care environment. It will<br />

prepare you for various nursing roles in multiple settings by teaching you to provide safe, competent<br />

care to the patients, communities and families you will serve. An onsite nursing lab recreates a<br />

hospital environment with highly realistic computerized “patients”, providing an enriched learning<br />

space. Curriculum is based on College of Nurses of Ontario Practice Standards and Guidelines,<br />

the national Entry-to-Practice Competencies for Registered Practical Nurses (updated 2<strong>02</strong>0) and<br />

Practical Nursing Program Standard for Ontario Practical Nursing programs (Ministry of Advanced<br />

Education and Skills Development).<br />

Notes:<br />

1. This program is currently approved (Category 2) by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Current graduates from this program will<br />

be eligible to apply for registration as Registered Practical Nurses in Ontario.<br />

2. The official Ministry name for this program is Practical Nursing.<br />

CAREER OUTLOOK<br />

Community health nurse / Palliative care nurse / Home care nurse<br />

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)<br />

or equivalent, or mature student status<br />

(19 years or older)<br />

• English Grade 12 C or U, or equivalent<br />

(minimum grade required)<br />

• Mathematics Grade 11 M or U, or 12 C or U,<br />

or equivalent (minimum grade required)<br />

• Biology Grade 11 or 12 C or U, or equivalent<br />

(minimum grade required). This requirement<br />

must have been achieved within seven years<br />

of the program start date.<br />

• One additional science (Physics, Chemistry<br />

or Exercise Science) Grade 11 or 12 C or U,<br />

or equivalent (minimum grade required). This<br />

requirement must have been achieved within<br />

seven years of the program start date.<br />

• Minimum grade scores: 75 per cent in each<br />

required subject (65 per cent in U or A level<br />

courses) and an overall average of 80 per<br />

cent in the four required subjects.<br />

• English language proficiency<br />

» Applicants to this program require three<br />

or more consecutive full years at a<br />

recognized secondary or post-secondary<br />

education institution in a school where<br />

English is the primary language of<br />

instruction and communication.<br />
