As of 2019, Netflix had 167 million subscribers. It’s one example of how broadcasting is changing,<br />

and needs professionals with both creative and technical skills. In this program, you will gain<br />

competencies required for motion picture, television and radio as well as multi-platform digital<br />

productions. You will learn to develop and create original story content; prepare, manage and carry<br />

out the production process by studying and practicing techniques for effective storytelling; gain<br />

technical experience and participate in creating and contributing to student productions. A portfolio<br />

and a full-time 14-week industry field placement will complement your studies.<br />

This preparation program will give you the foundation to pursue a postsecondary education in<br />

communications and media. Guided by industry-experienced faculty members, you will experiment<br />

with contemporary digital and social media production tools, create and maintain forums on social<br />

media networks, produce focused written communications and media solutions, and apply English<br />

language skills to a presentation portfolio. Upon completion of our well-rounded program, with minimum<br />

requirements, you will be eligible for admission to Advertising and Marketing Communications<br />

Management, Journalism or Broadcasting – Radio, Television, Film and Digital Media at Centennial<br />

College.<br />

Today’s journalism industry is more multifaceted than ever. To prepare you with the skills to navigate<br />

and succeed as it continues to change, this program will combine classroom learning with newsroom<br />

experience. The learn-by-doing approach will begin in Centennial’s on-campus publishing, broadcast<br />

and Internet facilities, where you will learn journalism fundamentals and gain the latest multiplatform<br />

skills. You will then apply your knowledge by writing stories for the award-winning community<br />

media outlet The Toronto Observer, and through producing online, radio and television newscasts.<br />

Exclusive field trips and a field placement will help you to gain real-world experience and build your<br />

professional network.<br />
