Problems and opportunities
in the Brazilian lift market
Problemi e opportunità
nel mercato brasiliano
he pandemic arrived in South America
later that Europe. Some countries made
a real lockdown like Argentina, Chile
and Colombia. Unfortunately Brazil made only
a partial quarantine.
Everywhere the lift is considered an essential
service, but even so, it can be understood
in different ways. This could include not only
rescuing trapped people and maintaining
hospital lifts, which are essential, but
also the complete industry chain.
Sometimes is difficult to
define it, because imagine
a lift from a hospital with
a need for a spare part
and the factory, who
makes it, is closed.
As in many other
countries, in Brazil,
around 90% of the
new installation market
on the three big OEM
(Original Equipment
Manufacturer) lift
companies (Schindler, Otis
and Thyssenkrupp Elevator).
The maintenance market has more
than 2.000 small and medium companies and
about 35% of market share. Now it is difficult
to estimate the percentage that not will survive
(become bankrupt) in this crisis and maybe this
will cause more concentration in the market.
We are afraid the risk of accidents will
increase. Because the maintenance is being
La pandemia è arrivata in Sud America
dopo l’Europa. Alcuni Paesi hanno
istituito un vero e proprio lockdown, come
l’Argentina, il Cile e la Colombia. Purtroppo il
Brasile ha imposto solo una quarantena parziale.
Ovunque l’ascensore è considerato un servizio
essenziale, ma nonostante questo, può essere
inteso in modi diversi. Ciò può includere non
solo il salvataggio delle persone intrappolate e
la manutenzione degli ascensori negli
ospedali, che sono essenziali, ma
anche l’intera filiera industriale.
A volte è difficile definirla,
immaginate l’ascensore di
un ospedale che necessita
di un pezzo di ricambio
ma la fabbrica che lo
produce è chiusa. Come
in molti altri Paesi,
anche in Brasile circa
il 90% del mercato
delle nuove installazioni
è rappresentato da tre
grandi aziende OEM di
ascensori, ovvero Produttrici
di Apparecchiature Originali
(Schindler, Otis e Thyssenkrupp
Elevator).
