It is clear that all sectors need to be regulated,
but our sector gives the impression that it is more
so than the others. We should see, for example,
whether in the aeronautics or automotive sectors
lift companies are required what, proportionately,
is required to other lift companies.
How does your magazine disseminate European
standards, for example in the period marked
by the new EN 81-20 and EN 81-50?
At ‘Ascensores y Montacargas’, we are well
aware that the industry is constantly moving
towards standards. EN 81-20 and EN 81-50 have
received all the attention they deserved
at the time of their publication, because they are
innovative.
How are Spanish companies reacting
to these new rules, especially the small ones?
Are they ready?
I believe that, like other European companies,
Spanish companies also appreciate the fact
that they are regulated, especially about the safety
issue. What may not please the majority
of SMEs in this sector is their low presence in the
committees where these new rules are developing.
Not only in Spain, but also in Europe, small
businesses suffer most when regulations change.
Someone once told us that perhaps this
over-regulation is nothing more than a strategy,
which not only takes into account the safety
but also the long-term future position of
large companies in this sector. This constant
standardisation also has a positive side, of
course, as it requires the replacement of all types

costantemente verso le norme. Le EN 81-20 e
EN 81-50 hanno ricevuto tutta l’attenzione che
meritavano all’epoca della loro pubblicazione,
per il fatto di essere innovative.
Come stanno reagendo le aziende spagnole
a queste nuove regole, soprattutto
quelle piccole? Sono pronte?
Credo che, come altre aziende europee, anche
le aziende spagnole apprezzino il fatto di essere
regolamentate, soprattutto per la questione
della sicurezza. Ciò che potrebbe non piacere
alla maggior parte delle PMI di questo settore
è la loro scarsa presenza nei comitati in cui
si stanno sviluppando queste nuove norme. Non
solo in Spagna, ma anche in Europa, le piccole
imprese sono quelle che soffrono di più quando
cambiano le regolamentazioni. Qualcuno una volta
ci ha detto che forse questo eccesso normativo
non è altro che una strategia, che non solo tiene
conto della sicurezza ma anche del posizionamento
futuro, a lungo termine, delle grandi aziende in
questo settore. Questa costante normazione ha
anche un lato positivo, naturalmente, in quanto
impone la sostituzione di tutti i tipi di componenti.
