double graduate in Economics and
Chemistry, Mr. Wagh also holds a
doctorate degree of Philosophy-
Entrepreneurship from the National
American University, and possesses a rich
experience of three and a half decades in
the pharmaceutical sector. Armed with
the perfect blend of technical knowledge
and business acumen, he began slowly
but surely, to build an edifice of excellence
in the field of Active Pharmaceutical
Ingredients (API). Owing to his clear
vision and impeccable articulation, this
first generation entrepreneur and widely
travelled technocrat, has earned the
admiration and esteem of his industry
colleagues and peers. He was elected
Chairman of CHEMECXIL, the Chemical
Export Promotion Council, Ministry of
Commerce & Industry, Government of
India in 1994, when total exports were a
mere USD 17 billion. Today, as he captains
the ship in his 6th term, the exports are
currently valued at over USD 47 billion.
Daring to Dream
Hailing from a typical middle class
working family; Mr. Wagh started his
career as a Plant Supervisor in a bulk
drug manufacturing company, after
completing his graduation degrees. He
worked for about 10 years in that capacity
and gained valuable experience and
hang of the manufacturing industry. His
basic background of economics and his
experience in the manufacturing sector
were his major assets as an aspiring
entrepreneur. Soon, the idea of starting his
own unit started taking shape in his mind.
The year 1987 was a turning point in
his life when he took the bold decision to
quit his job, and single-handedly took the
plunge into the vast world of chemical
manufacturing business. Despite the fact
that he possessed extremely meager
financial support which largely comprised
his own savings, he could successfully
convince the authorities and was able
to garner financial support from The
Maharashtra State Financial Corporation
(MSFC) by virtue of his enthusiasm and
dynamic ideas. He quickly completed
formalities of purchasing a piece of land
in a remote place like Lote Parshuram
Industrial Area of MIDC and erected a
small shed out of the available funds.
The necessary machinery and equipment
were brought and Mr. Wagh started
manufacturing Textile Auxiliaries and was
successful in developing a market for his
products despite facing tough competition
from large business houses in that field.
However, with the passage of time, a need
to diversify the activities was felt.
The opportunity was located and now it
was a question of grabbing it at the right
time. Once again the drive from within
could not keep Mr. Wagh passive and he
took a bold step ahead and entered the field
of manufacturing of bulk drugs in 1993. He
started operations with Chlorpheniramine
Maleate with an initial manufacturing
reactor of a capacity of 350 litres only. The
rest, they say, is history.

The hard work and commitment of Mr. Wagh
has paid rich dividends. After 32 years of
its inception, today Supriya Lifescience
Ltd. is renowned as a successful and
growing manufacturing company of Active
Pharmaceutical Ingredients. It has a stateof-the-art
US FDA, EU GMP & EDQM
certified facility in Khed, Ratnagiri and is
headquartered in Mumbai, India. The firm
regularly produces more than 35 products
covering various therapeutic segments
like Anti-Histamine, Anti-Asthmatic, Anti-
Allergic, and Vitamins. Its manufacturing
facility is spread over 40000 sq. mtr. and
is an abode of segregated therapeutic
blocks, supported by well-equipped QC,
QA & R&D. Its committed, qualified and
experienced team of scientists in R&D

today Supriya is a major player in its area
of business and exports to more than
105 countries of the world. The present
turnover of the company is 300 Cr. with a
growth rate of more than 22% per annum.
Approximately, 75% of its sales can be
attributed to exports and 25% to the
domestic market.

awards for its outstanding achievements
in the last three decades of manufacturing
and exporting business, namely Best
Quality Award, Best R&D, Consistent
Export Growth and Consistent Performance
award from various government and
non-government organisations. Mr.
Wagh has received numerous awards
for his outstanding contribution to the
pharmaceutical industry. He received
Excellence Award for the best performance
of export 2016-17 from Shri. Deepak
Kesarkar, Hon’ble Home Minister of State,
and Shri. Subhash Desai, Minister for
Industries and Mining, Government of
Maharashtra along with Governor Shri.
Vidyasagar Rao. He has been felicitated
many times by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri.

entrepreneur Mr. Wagh is an extraordinary
orator, who inspires and motivates the
young generation. He has enthused and
helped many aspiring entrepreneurs
to mark their presence in the pharma
world. He readily shares his experience
with young business school graduates as
guest lecturer at several reputed academic
institutions including the prestigious IIMA,
Ahmedabad; Symbiosis International
University, Pune; and IIFT, Delhi.
