A Brilliant Academic
Career
Dr. Ajeenkya is the son of Padma Shri
Award recipient Shri Dr. D.Y. Patil -
a former politician, ex-Governor of
Bihar, Bengal, and Tripura, and also the
founder of the D.Y. Patil Group. Soon
after completing his graduation, Dr.
Ajeenkya left for the UK to pursue an
MBA from Richmond College.

Dr. Ajeenkya has a breadth and depth of
experience that makes him a powerful
education leader. Having more than 24
years of experience in administering
numerous renowned institutions, Dr.
Ajeenkya has created a bold vision for
the University and has been devising
compelling strategies to lead the
University through remarkable growth
and development. He prioritizes student
success and aims at leveraging the
power of education for the betterment
of society.
As a responsible leader, Dr. Ajeenkya
gives topmost priority to building an
environment of inclusive excellence
and strengthening interdisciplinary
programs. Diversity, social inclusion,
equity, respect, and fairness are the
cornerstone of Dr. Ajeenkya’s vision for
the university. Under his stewardship,
Ajeenkya DY Patil University has been
growing by leaps and bounds. DY Patil
International Schools and DY Patil
Knowledge City have been planned
under his visionary leadership.
He has successfully provided the
University with a distinctive academic
portfolio consisting of professionallyoriented
courses. What’s more, he has
taken Indian education overseas by
establishing educational institutions in
South America and Europe. Recently,
he has signed a MoU with Thai Colleges
to provide students in Thailand with
education in areas of Extended Reality,
Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of
Things (IoT), and Machine Learning.
Besides holding an academic
leadership position, he also holds a
variety of responsible positions in
several organizations. For example, he
was the Chancellor’s nominee on the
Management Council of the University
of Mumbai from 2007 to 2010.
Additionally, he was a Board Member
of the International Baccalaureate
Organisation (IBO), and also chaired
the CII Education Committee for the
Western Region. Dr. Ajeenkya also
served as the Chairman of the Central
Board for Workers Education by the
Ministry of Labor and Employment,
Government of India.
Illustrious Achievements
Dr. Ajeenkya has received several
accolades from International and
National organizations in recognition
of his various academic achievements.
He is regularly invited as Guest Speaker
by many organizations. In 2007, he was
invited by Mrs. Cherie Blair and Lord
Patel to speak at the House of Lords on
the occasion of World Water Day. He
also spoke at the Indo-US Summit on
Higher Education on policy framing and
regulations in higher education (Need
for Deregulation).
He has been honoured by Shri Pranab
Mukherji, the former President of India
for his outstanding accomplishments in
Education. The University of Central
Lancashire, UK, has felicitated him
with an Honorary Doctorate for his
noteworthy achievements in the field
of education, social services, and
healthcare. He was presented with the
Paul Harris Fellowship by the Rotary
Foundation of Rotary International. He
also received Achiever Award from Lions
Club International.
