LFST 630 Law and History Seminar (3) Selected topics related to law and history, including such subjects as: the history of the common law, American constitutional history, the western legal tradition, law reform movements, Maryland's legal history, and the evolution of our civil rights and civil liberties. Srudents do some readings in common to define the themes of the seminar and also undertake independent research. A major paper is required. Prerequisites: LEST500,501, and 506; or permission ofimtructor. LFST 698 Internship in Applied Ethics (3) Provides observation and firsthand experience of the practice of ethics at designated profit, nonprofit or government organizations. Srudents work with a mentor at an appropriate organization they have selected and write an ongoing journal of their involvement as well as a critical essay on applied ethics related to their internship experience. Prerequisite: interview with internship director. LEST 799 Independent Research (1"3) Individual research on an academic project of interest to the srudent in consultation with a monitoring faculty member. MGMT 504 Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management (3) Satisfies the core requirements in organizational behavior and human resource management. Beginning with a focus on the individual, covers interpersonal and teamwork issues. Explores leadership, selection, motivation, performance assessment, and ethical and legal considerations related to these activities. Emphasis on effective oral and written communication. Prerequisite: Graduate standing. MGMT 506 Production and Operations Management (3) Management of the design and creation of products/services that can be sold at competitive prices. Topics include: strategic choice of technology; design of products/service and processes; location of facilities; project management; operations planning and control; material management; total quality management; benchmarking; and performance measurement. Prerequisite: Graduate standing. MGMT 640 Strategic Innovation and Renewal (3) The dynamics of an evolving organization. Topics include: vision and competitive strategy; shareholder, stakeholder, and value chain relationships; benchmarking; product and process improvement; performance assessment and evaluation; statistical tools for diagnosis and improvement; corporate governance, and organizational and financial restructuring; leadership and change; empowerment of human resources; and valuation of the firm. Prerequisites: concurrent or prior enrollment in INSS 640, FIN 640, ACCT 640, ECON 640 and MKTG 640.
