ofStudent Affairs (Law School). This doc The rights and responsibilities of the
umentation is not part of the student's col University ofBaltimore and the Office of
lege record. Documentation will remain in Disability Support Services are:
the DSS Office for seven years; then it will
be destroyed, unless the student requests
that it be returned to him/her.
Documentation guidelines have been
provided to assist students in obtaining
appropriate documentation from qualified
professionals. Appropriate documentation
of a disability helps the student in educating
appropriate disability staff about the
impact of his/her disability, his/her needs,
and potential accommodations.
The University of Baltimore may request
documentation for the following reasons:
• to verify the existence ofa disability
• to assist in the determination ofeligibility
for auxiliary aids and services, and
individual needs to minimize the impact
of the disability
The rights ofstudents with disabilities
are:
• equal access to all programs
• integrated settings
• academic adjustments
• protection against discrimination and
harassment
The responsibilities ofstudents with disabilities
are:
• advance request for accommodations/
academic adjustments
• advance notice for facilities access
• advance submission of proper medical
documentation
• to meet with a DSS staff member for an
intake appointment and discussion of
potential accommodation{s}
• to be a self-advocate
• to determine the appropriateness of submitted
documentation and requests for
accommodation(s} on a case by case
basis, based on the judgement of the
DSS Director
• to request additional information to
determine eligibility for services
• to keep all information regarding the
student's disability confidential
Disabilities to which this policy applies
are:
• specific learning disabilities
• psychiatric/psychological disabilities
• rehabilitated drug addiction/alcoholism
• deafness/hard of hearing
• blindness/low vision
• attention deficit disorder/hyperactivity.
Please note: Detailed documentation
guidelines for each ofthese types ofdisability
are available from the Office ofDisability
Support Services.
SEXUAl HARASSMENT POLICY
The University of Baltimore reaffirms the
principle that its students, faculty, and staff
have a right to be free from sex discrimination
in the form ofsexual harassment by
any member of the University community.
Sexual harassment is reprehensible and will
not be tolerated. It subverts the mission of
the University and threatens the careers,
educational experience, and well-being of
students, faculty and staff. Sexual harassment
is particularly damaging when it
exploits the educational dependence and
trust between students and faculty.
For a complete statement of the UB policy
on sexual harassment, see the UB
Policies and Procedures Guide.
