academic progress as defined in the WJU catalog. The student must be enrolled full time at WJU in order to receive the full<br />

amount. No application is necessary.<br />

Department Scholarship: First-time freshmen and transfers entering the Traditional Undergraduate Program who declare a major<br />

may be eligible to compete for a Department Scholarship. Eligible students will be contacted around March 1 to answer an essay<br />

question. From the essay responses, candidates for the award will be selected to attend a special, invitation only on-campus event<br />

where a personal interview with department faculty will be conducted. The amounts for and number <strong>of</strong> recipients for each grant<br />

will be contingent upon the applicant pool.<br />

Diversity Grant: These grants are competitive and based on financial need, academic achievement, and demonstrated leadership<br />

and vision through multiculturalism. To be eligible to apply, a student must meet the minimum eligibility requirements for an<br />

academic scholarship. Students must complete an essay response and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid<br />

(FAFSA) by April 1. If selected, the recipient must live on campus and be active with multicultural educational activities on<br />

campus. The amount <strong>of</strong> the grant is up to $4,000 (dispersed evenly per semester) and is renewable each year if the student<br />

maintains a WJU GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0. Notifications by May 15.<br />

Endowment Scholarship: Returning students may be awarded (based on faculty recommendation) privately funded scholarships<br />

based on criteria designated by the donors. These scholarships are awarded at the end <strong>of</strong> each academic year for the following<br />

year. No application is necessary unless noted.<br />

Ministry Worker Grant: WJU <strong>of</strong>fers this grant to students who are involved in full-time, paid ministry, or who are the unmarried<br />

dependent <strong>of</strong> someone who is involved in full-time paid ministry. Examples <strong>of</strong> full-time, paid ministry include: employees <strong>of</strong> a<br />

church, missionary organization, Christian school, para-church or other non-pr<strong>of</strong>it organization that focuses on spreading the<br />

gospel <strong>of</strong> Christ. Students must complete an essay response, submit pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> full-time paid ministry status (i.e. a letter from<br />

employer or copy <strong>of</strong> pay stub) and must have submitted the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This grant is<br />

$3,000 ($1,500/semester) and is renewable each year if the student provides pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> continued full-time employment in paid<br />

ministry and maintains a WJU GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.0. Applications must be submitted by May 1 for the following Fall term. Students who<br />

miss the Fall deadline will be allowed to apply for a Spring term award by December 1, if funds are available.<br />

Music Grant: Students who excel in musical talent and ability may audition with the Music Department Chair for this grant. The<br />

amounts <strong>of</strong> the awards vary. This grant is renewable each year at the discretion <strong>of</strong> the Music Department.<br />

Sibling Scholarship: In an effort to recognize the commitment <strong>of</strong> a family to educate two or more children at the same time,<br />

<strong>William</strong> <strong>Jessup</strong> <strong>University</strong> has created the Sibling Scholarship. For each semester that two siblings are concurrently enrolled in the<br />

traditional program at WJU, each student shall automatically receive a $1,000 scholarship (maximum $2,000, per student, per<br />

year). As soon as one student is no longer enrolled, the scholarship no longer applies to either student.<br />

Young Life Scholarship: This $1,000 scholarship ($500/semester) is <strong>of</strong>fered students who are recognized by Young Life<br />

Leadership for Christian character, commitment to Young Life service and demonstrated leadership potential. Students must<br />

apply for admission by April 1 (postmark date) and sign and submit the Young Life certificate by June 1. Full-time status (12+<br />

units) is required maintain full-time status each semester <strong>of</strong> attendance and the student may not stop out for more than one preapproved<br />

semester leave <strong>of</strong> absence.<br />

Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy<br />

In order to be eligible for federal, state, or institutional aid, students must make satisfactory academic progress according to the<br />

<strong>University</strong>’s policy. This policy requires a student to have a cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> at least 2.00 and to successfully complete a<br />

minimum <strong>of</strong> 67% (2/3) <strong>of</strong> classes in which the student has enrolled.<br />

All students will be reviewed for compliance with the satisfactory academic progress policy at the end <strong>of</strong> their first year at WJU and<br />

thereafter at the end <strong>of</strong> every Spring Semester. Students who have not met the requirements for satisfactory academic progress<br />
