nation prepared to enter the Promised Land. Exodus will be considered from the standpoints <strong>of</strong> the historical, cultural, and<br />

Psalms (S)<br />
An exegetical and theological study <strong>of</strong> the corporate and individual expressions <strong>of</strong> trust in the praises <strong>of</strong> ancient Israel. Each<br />
psalm will be viewed in its original historic and literary context as well as its use in worship then and now. (Prerequisite: BIBL349)<br />

An in-depth study <strong>of</strong> the covenant between God and the nation <strong>of</strong> Israel, with its accompanying obligations and consequences for<br />
obedience or disobedience. Deuteronomy will be considered from the standpoints <strong>of</strong> its historical, cultural, and theological<br />

Conquest and Settlement (S: even years)<br />
An exegetical and historical study <strong>of</strong> the books <strong>of</strong> Joshua, Judges, and Ruth. The investigation will give attention to current<br />
debates about the historicity and ethics <strong>of</strong> Israel’s conquest <strong>of</strong> Canaan and the contemporary significance <strong>of</strong> the themes <strong>of</strong> these<br />
books. (Prerequisites: BIBL349)<br />

Ezra-Nehemiah<br />
This course covers the historical background <strong>of</strong> the Jewish people that led to the events <strong>of</strong> these books and an in-depth study <strong>of</strong><br />
the books themselves with a view toward their message to the present day church.<br />

An in-depth study <strong>of</strong> the messages <strong>of</strong> Isaiah in their historical, cultural, and canonical setting. Special emphasis will be placed on<br />

An exegetical and historical study <strong>of</strong> the books <strong>of</strong> Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles. The investigation will give special attention to<br />

Minor Prophets <strong>of</strong> the Eighth and Seventh Centuries B.C. (S: odd years)<br />
A survey <strong>of</strong> the distinctive purpose, content, and fundamental messages <strong>of</strong> the prophets <strong>of</strong> Israel and Judah prior to the Exile.<br />
Each prophet will be studied in terms <strong>of</strong> the political, social, and religious issues <strong>of</strong> their days with parallels to ours.<br />
