Family & Children’s Ministry<br />
The Family & Children’s Ministry program integrates the disciplines <strong>of</strong> Biblical studies, education, and psychology to <strong>of</strong>fer a<br />
holistic approach to ministry and life, establishing a firm foundation through <strong>of</strong>ten turbulent cultural challenges. Students will<br />
learn to structure creative experiences that contribute to the spiritual development <strong>of</strong> persons <strong>of</strong> all ages and to serve as an<br />
effective and supportive member <strong>of</strong> the total pastoral team. As part <strong>of</strong> the Practical Theology department, we continue the<br />
longstanding heritage <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> to partner with the local church to evangelize, disciple, edify and unify believers to maturity<br />
in Christ.<br />
Distinctives<br />
The Family & Children’s Ministry program excels in educating, equipping, and preparing the student to engage others in the<br />
transformative process <strong>of</strong> spiritual formation. By sharing courses in the same department with pastoral and missions majors,<br />
students experience a strong theoretical and practical model for church leadership.<br />
� In-depth biblical studies to support a Scriptural understanding <strong>of</strong> ministry<br />
� Internship opportunities working directly with local church and parachurch ministries<br />
� Courses available in Christian education, pastoral work, intercultural studies, and psychology<br />
� Specializations available in ministry with children, families, small groups, and spiritual formation<br />
� Program approved by the Association for Biblical Higher Education<br />
A graduate <strong>of</strong> the Family and Children’s Ministry program will demonstrate the ability to:<br />
1. Articulate a biblically-based rationale for Christian formation and discipleship;<br />
2. Structure creative experiences that contribute to a person’s spiritual development;<br />
3. Choose and employ different methods available for teaching and learning in a variety <strong>of</strong> settings;<br />
4. Serve as an effective and supportive member <strong>of</strong> the total pastoral team.<br />

*Junior transfer students must complete all <strong>of</strong> the Bible core courses to complete a ministry degree (18 units total): Christian<br />
Foundations-OT, Christian Foundations-NT, Biblical Interpretation, Romans, Christian Theology, and Bible elective.<br />
