This course is a comprehensive overview <strong>of</strong> the use <strong>of</strong> computer-based technology in the educational environment and integration<br />

<strong>of</strong> computer based applications into instruction in the classroom. Emphasis is on making significant changes in teaching and<br />

learning through technology by connecting instructional strategies with relevant technologies. Topics for study include interactive<br />

technologies, computer application, educational utilities, computer ethics, computer access and equity, critical thinking/problem<br />

solving, computer-assisted instruction, and the impact <strong>of</strong> these technologies on our schools and nation<br />

Multicultural Education<br />

This course explores the impact <strong>of</strong> a number <strong>of</strong> diverse cultures represented in the classroom focusing on research and reflection<br />

on important strategies to help each student learn and develop the core curriculum subjects throughout the school experience.<br />

Conceptual approaches to educational programming enables each student to learn tolerance for different cultural realities and<br />

appreciation for the power <strong>of</strong> those cultural differences.<br />

Mathematics for K-8 Educators<br />

This course covers various topics in mathematics including geometry, probability and statistics, special relativity and time dilation.<br />

Students will collect data, analyze the data, and make probability statements from the data. Students will analyze complex<br />

problems, apply logical reasoning techniques learned from the above-mentioned areas, evaluate the truth <strong>of</strong> mathematical<br />

statements, and apply different solutions strategies.<br />

Curriculum & Methods in Visual & Performing Arts<br />

This course focuses on learning the resources and tools available for teaching visual and performing arts. Hands-on development<br />

<strong>of</strong> methods for classroom use including 2 hours <strong>of</strong> observation in a K-8 VAPA classroom and interview <strong>of</strong> a specialized VAPA<br />

educator. Participation in a VAPA fair is also required. This course prepares teachers to meet the California state requirements in<br />

visual and performing arts for the multiple subject credential and equips students with knowledge and methodologies for<br />

successful integration and teaching <strong>of</strong> these subjects. (Prerequisite: HIST231,HIST232, TEDU101, TEDU123)<br />

TEDU275 2 units<br />

Initial Student Teaching I<br />

Serving as a classroom assistant for 30 hours during the semester, the student will learn about the dynamics <strong>of</strong> lesson<br />

preparation and classroom instruction. The student will learn about specific pedagogical skills for subject matter instruction, the<br />

interpretation and use <strong>of</strong> assessments, making content accessible to students, developmentally appropriate teaching practices,<br />

and teaching English learners. These expectations will be demonstrated in Teaching Performance Assessment Task 1 (Subject<br />

Specific Pedagogy) which will be prepared and submitted (passing score <strong>of</strong> 3 or 4 is required). This course is the designated<br />

service learning course within this major. Service credit can be earned for successful completion <strong>of</strong> this course. (Prerequisites:<br />

TEDU101, TEDU102, TEDU123)<br />

TEDU302/CEDU301 3 units<br />

Foundations <strong>of</strong> Education<br />

This course reviews the major philosophic developments <strong>of</strong> education through research <strong>of</strong> the key components <strong>of</strong> education in a<br />

democracy and reflection on the power <strong>of</strong> the educational process in personal, social, mental, and spiritual development. The<br />

student will be encouraged to reflect on their own developmental journey and how they can help others research their potential for<br />

success and societal improvement. The student will explore the Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Education endorsed by the Association <strong>of</strong> Christian<br />

<strong>School</strong>s International (ACSI). This aspect <strong>of</strong> the course will prepare the student for an initial credential with ACSI. (Prerequisites:<br />

TEDU101 or 2 CEDU concentration courses)<br />
