New Testament Christianity, with special emphasis given to the problem <strong>of</strong> Christian unity.<br />

This course will survey California history from exploration to the present day. Contemporary issues in California’s economy,<br />

An overview <strong>of</strong> westward expansion <strong>of</strong> the United States from the colonial period through the “closing <strong>of</strong> the Frontier” (Frederick<br />

Jackson Turner) near the close <strong>of</strong> the 19th century. The continuing legacy <strong>of</strong> the Frontier and what that means for the American<br />

mythos will also be studied. (Prerequisite: HIST221/222 or HIST231/232)<br />

An introduction to the science <strong>of</strong> the study <strong>of</strong> man in his cultural setting. The end in view is the gaining <strong>of</strong> a better understanding<br />

<strong>of</strong> different customs and cultures to enable more effective cross-cultural communication. (Prerequisite: Sophomore standing)<br />

Building a People <strong>of</strong> Power<br />

An independent study course with integrative discussions based on Robert C. Linthicum’s VHS series and book Building A People<br />

<strong>of</strong> Power. This course explores how God’s people can exercise power in ways that further God’s kingdom by transforming urban<br />

neighborhoods into shalom communities.<br />

Intercultural Communication<br />

An introduction to how culture affects the process <strong>of</strong> intercultural communication with practical experience as a high contrast<br />

cultural partnership. Understanding is the priority as students look at the vast varieties <strong>of</strong> worldviews, customs, attitudes, values,<br />

belief systems, and behaviors which culture includes. Enhanced communication <strong>of</strong> the Christian gospel is crossculturally is one<br />

expected outcome.<br />
