popular religion, and Shintoism. Discussions include the reasons Western societies have been vulnerable to Asian religious<br />
concepts that have spawned the burgeoning “New Age” cults. Efforts are made to discover bridges <strong>of</strong> approach for sharing the<br />

This course addresses the missional issues <strong>of</strong> working in, to and through business to accomplish the missio Dei. Issues in this<br />
course include: an overview <strong>of</strong> the missio Dei, basic issues in contextualization, living and working cross-culturally, models <strong>of</strong><br />
business as mission, challenges facing the establishing business as mission and resources for business as mission.<br />

Partnership Development and Management<br />
A study <strong>of</strong> the relationship between the local church and missions. This course will explore means <strong>of</strong> developing, maintaining,<br />
and maximizing the potential <strong>of</strong> synergistic partnerships between cross-cultural missionaries, mission agencies, and local<br />
churches.<br />

Serving in Urban Contexts<br />
A critical reflection on the theological, biblical and philosophical bases for cities. Issues such as rapid urbanization and<br />
development, effects <strong>of</strong> marginalization, promoting Kingdom signs in the city, and leadership and discipleship for the urban<br />
church will be discussed. (Prerequisites: Sophomore standing, SOC201, or permission <strong>of</strong> instructor)<br />

Cross-Cultural Teaching and Learning<br />
Theories and strategies in preparing people for various roles using formal and non-formal approaches. The focus <strong>of</strong> this course is<br />
on contextualizing curriculum, content, methodology and delivery systems to meet learner needs.<br />

Teaching Effectively<br />
Incorporates the integration <strong>of</strong> Biblical teaching, concepts, and points <strong>of</strong> view into the analysis <strong>of</strong> teaching behavior. The concepts<br />
are explored <strong>of</strong> teacher as spiritual model, mentor, gospel presenter and the explicit spiritual formation and character<br />
development <strong>of</strong> students.<br />

Establishing Faith Communities (F)<br />
Survey <strong>of</strong> the theology, history, and practical skills relative to starting a new church. The practical instruction emphasizes<br />
evangelism, demographics, facilities, leadership development, and promotion.<br />

Issues in Intercultural Life and Work (odd yrs)<br />
A discussion <strong>of</strong> the theological basis <strong>of</strong> God’s plan for global evangelism and principles and methods used in today’s mission<br />
efforts. (Prerequisites: Upper division standing, ICSI103)<br />
ICS413 3 units<br />
Care and Counseling<br />
Deals with counseling issues most common to the local master: premarital and family counseling, death, loss, and other crises.<br />
The emphasis is on informal, short-term methods. Preparation for a role in counseling, weddings, funerals, baptisms, and other<br />
pastoral situations <strong>of</strong> Christian ministry. (Prerequisite: PSYC100)<br />
