This course explores the disciplines <strong>of</strong> developmental and educational psychology <strong>of</strong> theories and patterns <strong>of</strong> learning,<br />

development, instruction, and individual differences as they relate to teacher practices and educational programs. (Prerequisites:<br />

PSYC141)<br />

Curriculum & Methods in History and Social Science<br />

Designed to familiarize students with the resources and tools available for teaching history and social science. Hands-on<br />

development <strong>of</strong> methods for classroom use including a minimum <strong>of</strong> two hours <strong>of</strong> observation and participation in history and<br />

social science classrooms required. This course prepares teachers to meet the California state requirements in history and social<br />

science for the multiple subject credential and equips students with knowledge and methodologies for the successful integration<br />

and teaching <strong>of</strong> these subjects. (Prerequisites: TEDU123, HIST231, and HIST232)<br />

TEDU323 3 units<br />

Language, Culture, and Literacy<br />

Explores the wonder and development <strong>of</strong> language with various cultures, the literacy aspects <strong>of</strong> language development and<br />

structure, and attention to the development <strong>of</strong> concepts, vocabulary and contextual analysis. Areas covered in this course include<br />

the essential foundations for teaching reading, language, and literature. (Prerequisite: TEDU123)<br />

TEDU375 2 units<br />

Initial Student Teaching II<br />

The next step into the real world <strong>of</strong> teaching directs the student to more hands-on classroom assisting under the care <strong>of</strong> a<br />

classroom teacher. Thirty hours <strong>of</strong> classroom assisting required. Specific attention will be given to connecting instructional<br />

planning to student characteristics in order to facilitate preparation <strong>of</strong> Teaching Performance Assessment Task 2 (Designing<br />

Instruction) which the candidate will prepare and submit (passing score <strong>of</strong> 3 or 4 is required). This experience may not be with the<br />

same teacher, the same grade level, or the same subject used in Initial Student Teaching I. This course is the designated service<br />

learning course within this major. Service credit can be earned for successful completion <strong>of</strong> this course. (Prerequisites: TEDU275,<br />

TPA Task 1 score <strong>of</strong> 3 or 4, Verification <strong>of</strong> passing CBEST Examination, PSYCH141)<br />

TEDU413 3 units<br />

Curriculum & Methods in Math and Science<br />

The focus <strong>of</strong> this course is to learn the resources and tools available for teaching mathematics and science subjects. Hands-on<br />

methods for classroom use are developed. A minimum <strong>of</strong> four hours <strong>of</strong> observation and participation in mathematics and science<br />

classrooms is required. This course prepares teachers to meet the California state requirements in mathematics and science for<br />

the multiple subject credential and equips students with knowledge and methodologies for the successful integration and<br />

teaching <strong>of</strong> these subjects. (Prerequisites: TEDU213, TEDU223, SCI222, SCI224, SCI226)<br />

TEDU423 3 units<br />

Curriculum & Methods in Literature and Language<br />

Students will learn the resources and tools available for teaching literature and language subjects. Hands-on methods for<br />

classroom use are developed. A minimum <strong>of</strong> two hours <strong>of</strong> observation and participation in literature and language classrooms is<br />

required. This course prepares teachers to meet the California state requirements in literature and language for the multiple<br />

subject credential and equips students with knowledge and methodologies for the successful integration and teaching <strong>of</strong> these<br />

subjects. (Prerequisites: ENGL101b, TEDU323)<br />

TEDU475 6 units<br />

Student Teaching I<br />

This provides teaching experience in the day school under guidance <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> supervisor with cooperation <strong>of</strong> a credentialed<br />

master teacher in a regular school classroom. (May be public, private or charter school setting.) (Note: students seeking a<br />

California teaching credential must do this teaching in a public or charter school classroom to learn about California state adopted<br />
