Through hands on learning and exploring a broad range <strong>of</strong> learning tools available to the teacher, the student learns and<br />

experiences how to find and create methods <strong>of</strong> instruction. Using the world wide web, the student will learn to build creative<br />

methods for classroom use and to use them effectively, creating a practical application <strong>of</strong> important and useful tools for the<br />

classroom teacher. (Prerequisite: 2 CEDU concentration courses)<br />

CEDU301/TEDU302 3 units<br />

Foundations <strong>of</strong> Education (F)<br />

This course reviews the major philosophic developments <strong>of</strong> education through research <strong>of</strong> the key components <strong>of</strong> education in a<br />

democracy and reflection on the power <strong>of</strong> the educational process in personal, social, mental, and spiritual development. The<br />

student will be encouraged to reflect on their own developmental journey and how they can help others research their potential for<br />

success and societal improvement. The student will explore the Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Education endorsed by the Association <strong>of</strong> Christian<br />

<strong>School</strong>s International (ACSI). This aspect <strong>of</strong> the course will prepare the student for an initial credential with ACSI. (Prerequisites:<br />

TEDU101 or 2 CEDU concentration courses)<br />

Educational Psychology (F)<br />

Explores the disciplines <strong>of</strong> developmental and educational psychology <strong>of</strong> theories and patterns <strong>of</strong> learning, development,<br />

instruction, and individual differences as they relate to teacher practices and educational programs. (Prerequisites: PSYC141 and 1<br />

CEDU concentration course)<br />

Children’s Ministry<br />

Students will be challenged to gain insights into the nature and needs <strong>of</strong> children from birth to age twelve and to consider ways to<br />

help them grow as disciples <strong>of</strong> Christ. They will explore issues and possibilities in church-based ministries with children,<br />

including basic philosophies <strong>of</strong> ministry and their practical implications. A portion <strong>of</strong> class sessions in the second half <strong>of</strong> the<br />

semester will feature children’s ministers working in the Sacramento area, sharing their philosophy <strong>of</strong> ministry and addressing<br />

specific topics. (Prerequisite: PSCY141 Developmental Psychology.)<br />

Family Ministry<br />

Students will learn to develop a comprehensive ministry to strengthen marriages and families in the church and community. The<br />

course will feature hands-on skills, resources, and strategies.<br />

CEDU372 1 unit<br />

Effective Bible Teaching<br />

Incorporates the integration <strong>of</strong> Biblical teaching, concepts, and points <strong>of</strong> view into the analysis <strong>of</strong> teaching behavior. The concepts<br />

are explored <strong>of</strong> teacher as spiritual model, mentor, gospel presenter and the explicit spiritual formation and character<br />

development <strong>of</strong> students.<br />

Christian Education <strong>of</strong> Youth (S)<br />

An introduction to creative Bible teaching to youth, including skills in conversing one on one with youth and communicating to<br />

the adolescent. Involves an expanded section on experiential learning through games, simulation and role playing. (Prerequisite:<br />

CEDU372)<br />

CEDU407 1–4 units<br />

Christian Education Practicum<br />

An assignment <strong>of</strong> field work that contributes to advancing the experiential level <strong>of</strong> learning for the student. The focus is identified<br />

in a proposal and the experience is monitored by the instructor. (Prerequisite: Instructor permission)<br />
