Certificate<br />
The Music and Worship Certificate is designed for volunteers or lay leaders serving in churches and parachurch organizations.<br />
This program <strong>of</strong> study will prepare students to better serve in leadership and support positions in the area <strong>of</strong> music and worship.<br />
The contemporary church is experiencing growth and change in the role and use <strong>of</strong> music in worship, and today’s music leader<br />
must be equipped to deal with those changes. The certificate program curriculum will lay a foundation made up <strong>of</strong> performance,<br />
administrative and leadership skills and the acquisition <strong>of</strong> a broad knowledge <strong>of</strong> music and worship, its historical use in the<br />
church, its fundamentals, and its theories.<br />
WJU is committed to providing the best preparation for ministry in the area <strong>of</strong> music and worship. The faculty is made up <strong>of</strong><br />
committed Christians serving as pr<strong>of</strong>essional musicians, music ministers, and music educators. Our goal is to prepare leaders<br />
equipped to serve our Lord in the exciting and ever changing area <strong>of</strong> music and worship!<br />
Students who complete the course <strong>of</strong> study should demonstrate:<br />
1. The ability to perform competently as a vocal or instrumental musician with a basic pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in piano or guitar.<br />
2. The acquisition <strong>of</strong> a basic knowledge <strong>of</strong> music literature, both sacred and secular.<br />
3. The ability to support and serve in music and worship ministries equipped with sound biblical and educational concepts.<br />
4. A basic knowledge <strong>of</strong> the history <strong>of</strong> music and worship and its relationship to contemporary music ministry and worship<br />
design.<br />
