California Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential
WJU and the School of Professional Studies offer a teacher education program leading to careers in public, private and charter
school systems. It is the goal of the department to prepare teachers by encouraging character development and demanding
ethical behavior to meet the needs of the people teaching in schools throughout the world. The SPS offering of the multiple
subject credential is taught in an accelerated format with classes meeting just one night a week. The 30 unit program is just one
year in length.
The multiple subject credential, program is designed with a core of Christian values. The degree in Liberal Studies features strong
curriculum in Bible and theology. Preparation for teaching includes completion of the California Commission on Teacher
Credentialing approved program designed to help meet subject matter competence. The individual obtaining a multiple subject
credential is authorized to teach all subjects in kindergarten through grade twelve in self-contained classes.
Students seeking a single subject credential must satisfy subject matter competence requirements by passing the appropriate
state examination(s) and coursework. Please contact the teacher education office for details.
Graduates from the program are well-equipped, highly-principled individuals who understand diversity as a strength and who
provide for individual differences in order to help their students prepare for a diverse and rapidly changing world. The faculty
members in the Teacher Education program maintain high standards and expectations for themselves and the students who wish
to serve in building a better world by entering the teaching profession.
Please contact the School of Professional Studies office for admission information and requirements, which will include certificate
of clearance (fingerprinting), CPR certification (adult, child, infant, and Tuberculosis clearance.
Graduates from the program will demonstrate the ability to:

4. Plan instruction and design learning experiences for students in K-12 self-contained classrooms

6. Develop as a professional educator
7. Demonstrate necessary subject matter comprehension to teach the California State Framework
8. Meet all of the requirements to be recommended for California Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential
The credential program offered by William Jessup University is a state-approved program subject to revision by state or federal
law. Therefore, this program requires completion of specific benchmark assessments in addition to the successful completion of
WJU coursework. Please consult the School of Professional Studies office for specific current requirements. Current law requires
all candidates for a California teaching credential to successfully complete the following examinations, preparation for some of
which WJU has incorporated into our program:
CBEST California Basic Educational Skills Test (must be taken and passed before beginning program)
CSET 101 Reading, Language and Literature, History and Social Science (must be taken and passed before beginning
student teaching)
CSET 102 Science, Mathematics (must be taken and passed before beginning student teaching)
