Social Cultural Foundations <strong>of</strong> Education<br />
Enables future teachers to examine a broad overview <strong>of</strong> concepts and issues <strong>of</strong> multicultural education and the pedagogical<br />
implications for teachers in a pluralistic society. Students will learn concepts and strategies for infusing cultural understanding<br />
into the classroom. Students will reflect upon the new knowledge acquired to develop a multicultural perspective. (Prerequisite or<br />

Curriculum and Methods: Humanities<br />
The purpose <strong>of</strong> this course is to focus on curriculum and teaching methods in history, social science, visual & performing arts,<br />
and the language arts. Curriculum is based on the California state-mandated curriculum frameworks and standards. Methods<br />
include analytical thinking through the use <strong>of</strong> a variety <strong>of</strong> media and integration <strong>of</strong> the subject areas with an awareness <strong>of</strong> child<br />
developmental research. (Prerequisites or taken concurrently: TEDU 501, TEDU507)<br />

Curriculum and Methods: Sciences<br />
The student learns methods and curriculum planning for teaching and learning math and sciences in public/private elementary<br />
and middle schools. The primary focus will be placed on learning best practice instructional methods and evaluation procedures.<br />
Typical activities required will include observation <strong>of</strong> credentialed teachers in a number <strong>of</strong> different settings, preparing lesson<br />
plans, and several teaching demonstrations. Statistics and probability will be explored. (Prerequisites or taken concurrently:<br />

Applied Technology for Teachers<br />
This course is a comprehensive overview <strong>of</strong> the use <strong>of</strong> computer-based technology in the educational environment and integration<br />
<strong>of</strong> computer based applications into instruction in the classroom. Emphasis is on making significant changes in teaching and<br />
learning through technology by connecting instructional strategies with relevant technologies. Topics for study include interactive<br />
technologies, computer application, educational utilities, computer ethics, computer access and equity, critical thinking/problem<br />
solving, computer-assisted instruction, and the impact <strong>of</strong> these technologies on our schools and nation. The focus <strong>of</strong> the class<br />
time will be on curriculum theory and design, classroom management and discipline, pr<strong>of</strong>essional development.<br />

Initial Student Teaching<br />
Serving as a classroom assistant, the student will learn about the dynamics <strong>of</strong> classroom preparation and instruction. Field<br />
experience requirement for the course is 30 hours. The student will learn about specific pedagogical skills for subject matter<br />
instruction, the interpretation and use <strong>of</strong> assessments, making content accessible to students, developmentally appropriate<br />
teaching practices, and teaching English learners. These expectations will be demonstrated in Teaching Performance Assessment<br />
Task 1 (Subject Specific Pedagogy), which will be prepared and submitted (passing score <strong>of</strong> 3 or 4 is required). (Prerequisites or<br />
taken concurrently: TEDU501, TEDU507, TEDU509)<br />
TEDU575 4 units<br />
Student Teaching I<br />
Provides teaching experience in the day school under guidance <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> supervisor with cooperation <strong>of</strong> a credentialed<br />
master teacher in a regular school classroom. (May be public, private or charter school setting.) The course is open to multiple<br />
subject credential candidates who have been cleared for student teaching. An application for student teaching must be received by<br />
March 15 for the fall semester and by October 15 for the spring semester. Weekly seminars accompany student teaching. Field<br />
experience involves five weeks <strong>of</strong> half-day classroom instruction under supervision. Task 2 (Designing Instruction) and Task 3<br />
(Assessing Learning) <strong>of</strong> the Teaching Performance Assessments will be prepared and submitted (passing score <strong>of</strong> 3 or 4 is<br />
required for each task). This experience may not be with the same teacher, the same grade level, or the same subject used in<br />
