Case Management<br />
The study and practice <strong>of</strong> human assistance to the frail, needy, and disenfranchised within the broader social context. Students<br />
will be introduced to the theories <strong>of</strong> social welfare, the principles and practices <strong>of</strong> social work, and effective social interventions to<br />
individuals, families, groups, and larger community systems. The course is skills-based and it is expected that students will<br />
practice and develop rudimentary competency in the 12 core skills <strong>of</strong> social work practice. (Prerequisite: PSYC430, may be taken<br />
concurrently)<br />

Career Development<br />
An evaluation <strong>of</strong> career goals, including: finding a life’s work, dedication to God’s purposes for our lives, discovering His unique<br />
design in us, and disciplining ourselves to training that maximizes the potential He has placed within us. Additionally, the course<br />
equips students with tools to minister to others who are making life choices. (Prerequisite: PSYC141 is recommended)<br />
PSYC450 3 units<br />
Biopsychology<br />
This course includes a comprehensive study <strong>of</strong> the physiological and neurological correlates <strong>of</strong> behavior; including neurobiology<br />
(at both cellular and systemic levels), neuroendocrinology, molecular biology, and biological considerations <strong>of</strong> mental disorders.<br />
(Prerequisite: PSYC100 or consent <strong>of</strong> the instructor)<br />
PSYC460 3 units<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Skills<br />
Student will develop an understanding <strong>of</strong> the legal and ethical requirements <strong>of</strong> a pr<strong>of</strong>ession in addiction counseling. The<br />
foundational legalities <strong>of</strong> a counseling practice such as confidentiality as well as those specific to Drug and Alcohol counselors will<br />
be explored. Personal and pr<strong>of</strong>essional growth issues will be discussed including stress management. Additionally, advanced and<br />
applied counseling skills for substance abuse and addiction will be explored and developed.<br />
PSYC475 4 units<br />
Field Work in Psychology<br />
The student will be expected to work in a setting congruent with their psychology concentration. Cross cultural, educational,<br />
mental health, correctional, or related placements may be approved, depending upon the concentration chosen by the student.<br />
Supervision on site as well as group supervision on campus will be a part <strong>of</strong> field work. Field Work in Psychology will be taken the<br />
senior year. All required course work must be concurrent with or prerequisite to Field Work in Psychology. This course is the<br />
designated service learning course within this major. Service credit can be earned for successful completion <strong>of</strong> this course.<br />
PSYC475c 3 units<br />
Practicum in Addiction <strong>Studies</strong> (F)<br />
Hands on volunteer experience in an agency practicing the 12 core functions <strong>of</strong> a substance abuse counselor with supervision by<br />
both the agency personnel and Addictions <strong>Studies</strong> Faculty. Primary focus <strong>of</strong> faculty supervision for the fall semester is on<br />
development <strong>of</strong> Orientation, Screening, and Client Education skills as well as mastering the intake process. Legal and ethical<br />
issues will be discussed in the context <strong>of</strong> case conferencing. (All required coursework must be concurrent with or prerequisite to<br />
Practicum)<br />
PSYC475d 3 units<br />
Practicum in Addiction <strong>Studies</strong> (S)<br />
Continuation <strong>of</strong> agency volunteer experience practicing the core functions <strong>of</strong> substance abuse counselor with supervision by both<br />
the agency personnel and Addictions <strong>Studies</strong> Faculty. The primary focus <strong>of</strong> faculty supervision for the spring semester will be<br />
