An overview <strong>of</strong> algebra and geometry, including functional relationships, linear and quadratic equations, representational systems,<br />
and statistics. Students are placed based on SAT/ACT scores.<br />
MUS100-400 ½ unit<br />
Applied Lessons (F, S)<br />
One 25-minute private lesson per week in the area <strong>of</strong> voice, keyboard, or instrument specified as the applied major. Students must<br />
obtain a juried level 400 in one applied area before presenting their senior recital. Students are encouraged to broaden and<br />
develop their skills in non-concentration applied areas as well.<br />
MUS101 3 units<br />
Music Appreciation<br />
A general introductory course designed to enhance listening enjoyment and ability. Course emphasis is on the elements <strong>of</strong> music,<br />
the characteristic styles <strong>of</strong> major historical periods, and the lives and works <strong>of</strong> key composers within the Western musical<br />
tradition. Course includes in-class demonstrations and attendance at outside musical events. No previous musical study required.<br />

Music Fundamentals (F)<br />
Introduction to note reading, rhythm, time signatures, ear-training, and musical terminology.<br />

Class Piano I (F)<br />
Class instruction in the development <strong>of</strong> a basic pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in piano. Emphasis is on note and rhythm reading, repertoire, sight<br />
reading, scales, and basic chord progressions. May be repeated for credit.<br />

Beginning Guitar (F)<br />
Class instruction in the development <strong>of</strong> the fundamental skills <strong>of</strong> guitar playing. The course is designed for students with little or<br />
no previous experience with the guitar. May be repeated for credit.<br />

Beginning Drums (S)<br />
Class instruction in the development <strong>of</strong> the fundamental skills <strong>of</strong> drum playing. The course is designed for students with little or<br />
no previous experience with the drums. May be repeated for credit.<br />

Beginning Voice (S)<br />
Class instruction in the art <strong>of</strong> singing. This course is designed for non-voice majors and beginning voice students. Course content<br />
includes vocal technique, repertoire building, and performance practice.<br />
MUS196 0-1/2 unit<br />
<strong>University</strong> Community Chorus (F, S)<br />
A Mixed voice choir open to the general public, alumni, faculty, staff and students. Music <strong>of</strong> various styles and periods is<br />
rehearsed and performed both on campus and in the community. Activities include varied opportunities for on campus and tour<br />
performances. May be repeated for credit.<br />
