This course provides students with an overview <strong>of</strong> the unique management implications <strong>of</strong> the non-pr<strong>of</strong>it sector. It examines the<br />
roles <strong>of</strong> the executive director, the board, staff, fund-raisers and volunteers. Students will cover the major business functions and<br />
how they apply to the unique nature <strong>of</strong> nonpr<strong>of</strong>its and discuss current trends in the management <strong>of</strong> these organizations.<br />

An overview <strong>of</strong> the processes that transform inputs into finished goods and services; helps students understand the importance <strong>of</strong><br />
operations management and how it interacts with other parts <strong>of</strong> the organization; develops skills in applying appropriate analytical<br />
tools to business operations challenges. (Prerequisite: BUS190 Business Statistics)<br />

Human Resource Management<br />
A study <strong>of</strong> the theories and practices <strong>of</strong> human resource management; strategies to secure, develop and maintain a productive<br />
workforce; job analysis, work design, HR planning, recruitment, selection, training, evaluation, compensation and benefits, EEO,<br />
OSHA, labor relations, employee rights and discipline.<br />

Total Quality Management<br />
An introduction to quality management principles and the implementation <strong>of</strong> quality into an organization. Specific topics include<br />
continuous improvement, statistical process control, quality philosophies, quality awards, quality certification and design.<br />

Project Management<br />
An overview <strong>of</strong> project management from both strategic and operational points <strong>of</strong> view. Quantitative methods include project<br />
planning, budgeting, evaluation, selection, scheduling and control. Project management s<strong>of</strong>tware will be used to illustrate the<br />
concepts. Qualitative methods include project organization structure, staffing and team building. The role and responsibilities <strong>of</strong><br />
the project manager will be discussed. (Prerequisite: BUS220, BUS210)<br />
BUS388 3 units<br />
Entrepreneurship<br />
This course provides an insight into the characteristics <strong>of</strong> entrepreneurs and examines the growth <strong>of</strong> entrepreneurship. Students<br />
will apply the methods used to create, identify and evaluate opportunities for new ventures and the skills that are needed to start<br />
and manage new ventures. Students will develop a preliminary business plan including problems and factors involved in<br />
launching and operating small pr<strong>of</strong>it and non-pr<strong>of</strong>it organizations. Emphasizes entrepreneur characteristics sought by venture<br />
capitalists and investors, role <strong>of</strong> the business plan and evolutionary stages <strong>of</strong> start-up activity.<br />
BUS475 2 units<br />
Business Internship<br />
A directed educational experience with a business, non-pr<strong>of</strong>it organization or church. It involves supervision by a manager <strong>of</strong> the<br />
business and a faculty advisor as the business intern applies business principles in a practical environment. This course is the<br />
designated service learning course within this major. Service credit can be earned for successful completion <strong>of</strong> this course.<br />
