Ancient Rome (F)
The history of Rome from its foundation to the end of the Empire with emphasis on its political institutions, social structure,
economy, religions, and culture. Written sources will be studied as well as the art and architecture of Rome and nearby cities of
Ostia, Pompeii, and Herculaneum to gain a comprehensive view of ancient Rome. Prerequisite: Western Civilization I or World
Civilization I.

This course will focus on developments and trends in Europe, Asia and the Third World during the 20th century, including various
ideological movements and their consequences, post-colonialism and globalization. (Prerequisite: HIST221/222 or HIST231/232)

This course will take an in-depth look at the interaction of Christianity and Islam from the conquests of Mohammed in the Middle
East through the current world-wide struggle arising from a newly resurgent and often militant Islam. The course will explore the
historical, cultural and theological aspects of this interaction between two of the world’s great monotheistic faiths. (Prerequisite:
