000-099<br />
Developmental courses designed to prepare a student for college-level work and do not count towards graduation.<br />
100-299<br />
Lower division courses designed primarily for freshmen and sophomores.<br />
300-499<br />
Upper division courses designed primarily for juniors and seniors.<br />
500-599<br />
Graduate level courses designed primarily for graduates who desire a teaching credential.<br />
1000-1999<br />
Continuing Education Units do not apply toward college units or a degree program.<br />
All _99 numbers are reserved for Special <strong>Studies</strong> topics.<br />
In general, the first digit <strong>of</strong> the course number indicates the year level at which it is recommended that the course be taken<br />
(1=freshman, 2=sophomore, 3=junior, 4=senior, 5=post-baccalaureate, 0=remedial).<br />
Explanation <strong>of</strong> Course Notation<br />
The course number is followed by the semester hours <strong>of</strong> credit earned upon successful completion <strong>of</strong> the course. The title <strong>of</strong> the<br />
course is listed below the course number. Special studies courses numbered 199, 299, 399 and 499 are <strong>of</strong>fered if needed and if a<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essor is available.<br />

New Testament Literature<br />
This course introduces the student to the literary genres, historical background, cultural settings and major theological themes <strong>of</strong><br />
the New Testament documents. Emphasis will be on understanding the purpose, approach and argument <strong>of</strong> each New Testament<br />
book/letter within the first century setting <strong>of</strong> the early church.<br />

Old Testament Literature<br />
Establishes the foundational strands, evident throughout Scripture, <strong>of</strong> God's revelation <strong>of</strong> His character and plans and <strong>of</strong> His view<br />
<strong>of</strong> human nature. This introduction to the literature <strong>of</strong> the Old Testament and the history <strong>of</strong> the Jewish people through the post-<br />
Exilic period will emphasize the relevance <strong>of</strong> the revelation for today.<br />
