Learning practical leadership principles applicable to music and worship, the student will learn the essentials <strong>of</strong> worship leading<br />
and become equipped to lead worship in a variety <strong>of</strong> ministry contexts.<br />
MUS356 2 units<br />
Instrumentation and Arranging (S)<br />
An introduction to orchestration. Students will develop scoring skills for orchestral, symphonic and wind ensemble instruments.<br />
Scoring for full ensembles and for smaller combinations typical in school and church settings will be emphasized. (Prerequisites:<br />
MUS272 , MUS274, Writing Pr<strong>of</strong>iciency passed)<br />

Accompaniment (F, S)<br />
Designed to give the keyboard major experience in accompaniment. Students will be assigned to an applied student or to one <strong>of</strong><br />
the college ensembles. Instruction will stress the basics <strong>of</strong> accompaniment as opposed to solo performance skills. Keyboard<br />
majors may substitute this course for Class Piano. May be repeated for credit.<br />

A survey <strong>of</strong> the music <strong>of</strong> the non-western world, including selected areas from Africa, Asia, and South America.<br />

A course in the composition and scoring <strong>of</strong> song forms. Students will study, analyze and compose various song forms and genres.<br />

Music Theory V-VI<br />
A more advanced look at diatonic theory, and dominant and non-dominant seventh chords, ninth, eleventh and other expanded<br />
harmonies, figured bass, Sonata Allegro and other forms, secondary dominants, keyboard harmony, and analysis.<br />
(Prerequisite:MUS272 and 274)<br />

<strong>University</strong> Singers (F, S)<br />
An auditioned choral group <strong>of</strong> mixed voices. Music <strong>of</strong> various styles and periods is rehearsed and performed both on campus and<br />
in the community. Activities include various on campus concerts, chapel and opportunities for tour performances. Audition and<br />
Instructor permission required. May be repeated for credit.<br />
