Test: One<br />

Participants were presented with a $20 and a $100 note and specifically designed debit card<br />

that they were inf<strong>or</strong>med has a st<strong>or</strong>ed value <strong>of</strong> $100. They were asked to note down their ‘top-<br />

<strong>of</strong>- mind’ responses.<br />

Projective Test One (a)<br />

This test required participants to look at and to hold a $20 and write down the w<strong>or</strong>ds that<br />

come to mind. A summary <strong>of</strong> the w<strong>or</strong>ds rec<strong>or</strong>ded are shown in Exhibit 5.2.<br />

The most common w<strong>or</strong>ds and phrases are to do with spending, m<strong>or</strong>e specifically spending on<br />

small day to day amounts. Others include w<strong>or</strong>ds to the effect that the $20 note is familiar (in<br />

the sense that everyone has one) and it is ‘comf<strong>or</strong>table’ to have one in one’s wallet;<br />

essentially, quickly spent without angst. The following quotes give a general idea <strong>of</strong> the main<br />

themes:<br />
