fructosamine levels were higher in the AF group. Plasma levels of fluorescent<br />

AGEs showed a strong tendency to be higher in the AF group with respect to SR<br />

patients and sRAGE levels were significantly higher in patients with AF. Although<br />

in our study there was no difference in AF incidence between diabetic and non-<br />

diabetic groups (34.2% AF vs. 40.7% AF for diabetics and non-diabetics,<br />

respectively, p=0.522), the AF percentage in diabetic patients with poor metabolic<br />

control (HbA1c≥7.5%) was clearly higher than in diabetic patients with good<br />
