glycaemic control was worse, particularly in the AF groups. However, only<br />

statistically significant differences between the AF group and the SR group were<br />

found for the values of sRAGE in non-diabetic and in poorly controlled diabetic<br />

patients (Fig. 1). With regard to fluorescent AGEs values, only in the nondiabetic<br />

group statistically significant difference was found between the AF group and SR<br />

group (Fig. 1).<br />

c) Relation between AGEs and sRAGE with other parameters of glycaemic<br />

control<br />

Plasma levels of fluorescent AGEs correlated significantly with levels of<br />

fructosamine, HbA1c and sRAGE (r=0.409, p=0.002; r=0.279, p=0.011; r=0.220,<br />

p=0.030, respectively). The same occurred for sRAGE with fructosamine (r=0.599,<br />

p=0.001) and with HbA1c (r=0.307, p=0.005).<br />
