9.31.3 HOUSING
• Housing design should promote a high level of privacy whilst
conveying a strong sense of community and integration with the
overall development (Figure 9.53).
• Residential neighbourhoods shall be based on a residential park
concept with the provision of at least 30 percent open space (Figure
9.54).
• Residential development shall be designed based on the cluster design
to allow for utilisation of the best building sites while preserving
environmentally sensitive areas. Monotonous barrack-like layout is
not desirable. (Figure 9.55 and 9.56).
• Residential development shall be in harmony with site conditions,
conforming to the natural contours of land and adapted to the
surrounding terrain.
• Housing development shall be designed to accommodate disabled
residents, particularly incorporating facilities and features suited to
their needs.
• Residential streets should be designed to eliminate through traffic and
to create a safe and comprehensive pedestrian and cycle path network.
• Enterprise residential shall provide a variety of up-market housing
types such as waterfront housing, homestead housing and enterprise
housing equipped with eco-friendly features.
• Residential environment will be developed to meet high-class
international standards, catering for the needs of top management and
executives.
