As shown in Table 2, most patients receiving an autoSCT in CR1 had one or<br />

more poor prognosis features. These adverse characteristics were age >35 years<br />

(n=10), white <strong>blood</strong> cell counts (WBC) >30X 10 9<br />

immunophenotype (n-9), complete remission obtained in more than 5 weeks<br />

reflects the number of patients autografted in first remission with none, one, <strong>and</strong><br />

two or more poor prognosis features.<br />

All patients in second or subsequent remission <strong>and</strong> those in relapse were<br />

considered to have poor-risk ALL, since adults in these stages are unlikely to be<br />

cured with chemotherapy. In these categories, an established prognostic factor is<br />
