Other aspects regarding autoSCT in ALL also need clarification <strong>and</strong> include the<br />

following: 1) Is this procedure better than chemotherapy for any subgroup of<br />

patients? 2) Can current autoSCT technology be improved? 3) Does purging the<br />

autograft have any clinical relevance? 4) Are double autotransplants better than<br />

single transplants? 5) What is the role of autoSCT vs. unrelated donor<br />

hematopoietic <strong>transplantation</strong> (BM, PBSC, or cord <strong>blood</strong>)? All these questions<br />

need prospective studies <strong>and</strong> scientific collaboration to be adequately addressed.<br />
