“WhERE DO YOU ThINK ThE WORLD IS
hEADED?
DOVE STA ANDANDO IL MONDO,
SECONDO LEI ?
You may think I’m an incurable optimist, but I
refuse to accept that technological progress
will lead us to disaster in the very end.
On the other hand, my classical formation
was designed to convince myself as well
as my pears that “historia magistra vitae”,
whereas I have personally discovered
during my rather long life that history does
not teach us anything.
So, my Weltanschauung is a rather cynical
one: I see globalism as a phase of our
history which will ultimately give way to
another new era. (Let’s only think how
people in Great Britain must have viewed
the Industrial Revolution in the period
from 1760 to 1840...).
Even with all the problems we today have
to face – and possibly play a role in finding
solutions to , such as welfare and poverty
– I find the present times nevertheless
both interesting and challenging.
Akin to anyone else, I fear for my children
and grandchildren, but I trust that they
will form part of the solution and not the
