Gargoyles, Grotesques, Guardians, these beings (stone carvings) have gone by many names throughout the years. Carved from the very stone the Mountain Dwarves called home, the Gargoyles were created as sentries to guard against the scourge of Maliask. No one knows when or how, but a few of these constructs gained sentience and took on a life of their own. Now they travel out from the mountains searching for their own purpose no longer bound to the caverns. There is much that is still unknown of these creatures. Some as wise as their weathered faces bely some as naïve as the day they were carved. The scholarly arts do not come easily to this race as they prefer the art of combat. Being made of solid stone, Gargoyles are a slow moving, but determined lot who are scared of nothing. The Gargoyles have no real society to speak of, nor racial preconceptions as their personalities seem to be influenced by their sculptor. They are known to be fiercely protective and loyal to a fault, often fighting till their last breath to protect their charges. It is for this reason that it is rumored that Maliask left the Mountain Dwarves to hide in their caves, not wanting to disturb the Gargoyles repose. Gargoyle Most of the races of Fenorra are still unsure of exactly how to coexists with the Gargoyles in their midst. Some find it unnerving, while others take it in stride and are happy to have such a competent fighter beside them. To see a Gargoyle walking around Fenorra still causes young children to stop and stare, whispering to their mothers that the stories are true. The elderly see it as a dark omen that Fenorra’s need must be dire for these Guardians to have left the confines of their mountain caves and travel freely over ground. The humans of Fenorra are an innately creative race whose craftsman are known to be the best in Fenorra. Skilled with their hands, crafting comes as something that the human people find easy to learn and enjoyable. Because of this every Human takes up at least one craft either has a profession or hobby and continues to practice and improve their skills as they grow in age. Some believe it was because of this aptitude Humans were bred into servitude to Maliask and his Vampire progeny. They have been kept as cattle and slaves for generations and living as serfs to Vampyre lords is the only way of life that most Humans ever know. Many have come to accept the “Blood tithe” as a simple fact of life that cannot be avoided and live everyday knowing they could be claimed without a moment’s notice. Due to thier station in life, and the dictates of Maliask education in Human society has been kept to a minimum. Because of this Humans have a difficult time learning magics and for those rare few who have studied to become Human magic users they still cannot seem to grasp the higher magics of any school. Humans are a hearty and adaptable race living upwards of 120 years. It is because of their multi-generation enslavement that they have learned to resist the vampyre drain that comes along with being fed from. Many of them through just their will have learned to ignore the charming attempts of their Vampyre masters and are resistant to being turned themselves. The few Humans who have escaped servitude have can often be found banded up in large groups of other races. The interest in the other races for their blood is not as high as the interest in Humans. Therefore there is safety in numbers with no too many humans gathered. Not all humans are or have been born into slavery. It is rare to find but in the few territories not under Maliask’s rule small villages of humans or humans and mixed races can be found living in peace.
