Legends used to tell of werewolves. Fearsome creatures that were twisted by the light of the moon to become fearsome hybrids of human and beast. Their ferocity was legendary and stirred many a babe to clutch for their mother’s skirts. Lately, these legends have lost most of their bite, for the appearance of the lycanthropes has turned myth to fact. But like all legends, some things are wrong, and the truth is lost in history. During the dark times, humans split into two distinct groups. The humans of today, which became artisans and serfs to the various vampyres. And the group that would eventually become lycanthropes. Legends say this split happened when groups of humans split off from the cities and towns and formed small tribes out in the wilderness. Shamans led the clans, teaching them in the seclusion of the wilds. Through emulation of the local wildlife, they would instruct on better ways to live, away from the ever present eyes of the vampyre lords. Spreading across Fenorra each clan held its own animal as sacred. Taking the aspects of the strongest animals, they would follow the great cats, the wolves or the birds of prey. They would revere this animal above all others, seeking to become one with their new totem animal. By the blaze of the fires, shamans would teach, and during the fervor of their speeches, their forms would twist and wrack itself until it resembled a facsimile of the beasts they worshipped. Superstition and nonsense, it was thought, until the other tribe members began to shift when the sun set. Currently, the lycanthropes have spread across all of Fenorra, making niches for their individual clans. Drawing strength from their totem animals has changed them. Being of a tribal nature, all members of the race wear tribal paint that represents past accomplishments. During the day small aspects of their second nature show through the otherwise human form. Feathers, fur, fangs, all are common among the different clans. During the night, they give themselves over fully to their animal halves, gaining wicked claws or talons, perfect for the hunt. Living in this tribal way has given the lycanthropes tougher skin, strong enough to protect them in dire need. Their strength is also greater than their human cousins, a product of their harsh upbringing in the wilds. All these benefits come with a cost however. In giving themselves over to their animal aspects, they lose the ability to use magics while transformed. Their claws are non-retractable, leaving them unable to use items or tools once the sun sets. Unlike their human cousins, they do not live as long, the oldest living lycanthropes living around one Lycanthrope hundred years. Their tribal nature makes them rely on their own strength and bodies, having a taboo against wearing armor, their thick skin providing enough protection. These folk reside in the oceans of Fenorra. They can breathe air or in the water however they prefer the protection of the deep water.. Most commonly they can be found living in under water caverns that have massive air pockets, colonizing in large groups. Caring for subterranean plant life to keep their air fresh to breathe and keeping the air pockets which supply their society a protected place to thrive. They are a reclusive people; it is rare for them to be found on the main land. They are a selfdependent people and therefore have little need to travel to the dry land for anything. Naiads are folk of the water, most of their body covered in scales, what isn’t scaly is skin such as a human. Their scales range through all colors of blue and green with small accents of brighter colors similar to a coral fish. They have gills on the neck and finned long ears. They are excellent swimmers and can often be seen from the coastline swimming with dolphins and other friendly sea life. They do not deal well with the cold weather or ice in general. They prefer the warmer waters of the southern oceans. Healers by nature they do not possess the ability to fight as their main art, nor can fathom the idea of using a weapon that requires both hands to Naiad use, this makes them feel restrained in a way. Naiads tend to be slightly timid in social situations concerning people outside their own race. They are accustomed to the silence of the ocean depths and enjoy sitting in that silence. While they are timid they seem to have an enthralling attraction about them. They are easy going and fun loving, but with a sense of responsibility. They have a difficult time making enemies just through everyday life. Their lifestyle is generally off what the ocean can provide for food, clothing and material tools and items, however when given the opportunity they will indulge in the fineries of surface life as a treat. Naiads are a long lived people, generally finding the height of their life around 500 years.
