Morning, evening and Saturday peak hour bicycle counts were conducted at each of<br />

the study area intersections. Peak hour bicycle volumes are presented in Figures 4-<br />

12 and 4-13 for the morning, evening, and Saturday peak hours, respectively.<br />

To quantify bicycle activity at key locations, bicycle counts were conducted in May<br />

2008 at:<br />

The intersection of Boylston Street and Exeter Street<br />

The intersection of Exeter Street and Blagden Street<br />

The intersection of Exeter Street and Huntington Avenue<br />

Boylston Street between Fairfield Street and Gloucester Street<br />

Huntington Avenue between Belvidere Street and East Ring Road<br />

The counts were performed during the AM and PM peak traffic hours on Thursday<br />

May 1, 2008 and during the midday peak on Saturday, May 3, 2008. The weather<br />

conditions were good on both days. The bicycle counts, similar to pedestrian and<br />

vehicle counts, were reduced (one percent per year) from year 2008 to year 2006, in<br />

order to correspond to data presented in the NPC/PNF. As illustrated in Figures 4-<br />

12 and 4-13, bicycle volumes are highest along Boylston Street.<br />

As illustrated in the NPC/PNF, the Exeter Residences and 888 Boylston<br />

developments will utilize existing loading dock areas within the Prudential Center to<br />

accommodate the proposed program demands. Specifically, the Exeter Residences<br />

will utilize the Shaw’s Supermarket dock (Shaw’s dock, illustrated in Figure 4-14)<br />

and 888 Boylston will make use of the Prudential Center North Dock (also referred to<br />

as the “D-Block”, illustrated in Figure 4-15). A detailed discussion on loading bays<br />

was presented in the NPC/PNF.<br />

At present, a formalized agreement exists between the Proponent and Shaw’s<br />

Supermarket, establishing the operation and use of the dock to support the<br />

Gloucester Apartments and the proposed Exeter Residences. The Shaw’s<br />

Supermarket and the residential units have complementary uses and AvalonBay will<br />

coordinate with Shaw’s to schedule deliveries to prevent any overcrowding on local<br />

streets.<br />

Exeter Residences and 888 Boylston Street have been designed to accommodate all<br />

loading and delivery functions in a safe and efficient manner. Truck routes and<br />

hours of deliveries will be coordinated to minimize truck activity during the<br />

commuter peak hours. Reasonable efforts will be made to use service vendors<br />
