herb of the order Composite closely allied to Senecio campestris,
growing wild in the dry places of mountains and fields.
It grows to a height of about 1 ft., yielding many reddish yellow
flowers at the top of the divided branches.

globular thorny buds, and then dark purple flowers. The
young leaves are edible, and the old leaves are used to make
