8.3.9 Extractive <strong>in</strong>dustries<br />

A study is underway s<strong>in</strong>ce January <strong>2012</strong> to update the <strong>in</strong>formation conta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> the<br />

<strong>Commission</strong> Report on the practical implementation of Health and safety Directives<br />

92/91EEC (m<strong>in</strong>eral extraction through drill<strong>in</strong>g) and 92/104/EEC (surface and underground<br />

m<strong>in</strong>eral extraction) 197 . F<strong>in</strong>al results are expected by February 2013.<br />

The study <strong>in</strong>tends to review the provisions and the application of Directive 92/91/EEC, <strong>in</strong><br />

particular the provisions on offshore oil and gas activities. It is related to the <strong>Commission</strong><br />

proposal for a Regulation of the <strong>Europe</strong>an Parliament and of the Council on safety of offshore<br />

oil and gas prospection, exploration and production activities 198 .<br />

The study aims to <strong>in</strong>dicate whether changes to the Directive are required, particularly as<br />

regards extraction by drill<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the offshore <strong>in</strong>dustry.<br />

8.3.10 Hairdress<strong>in</strong>g sector<br />

On 26 April <strong>2012</strong>, representatives of the <strong>Europe</strong>an Union's employers and trade unions <strong>in</strong> the<br />

hairdress<strong>in</strong>g sector signed an agreement on health and safety of workers <strong>in</strong> this sector which<br />

builds on exist<strong>in</strong>g national best practices <strong>in</strong> the Member States that are effective <strong>in</strong> reduc<strong>in</strong>g<br />

occupational health risks. It addresses, <strong>in</strong> particular, specific risks such as the use of materials,<br />

products and tools to protect the sk<strong>in</strong> and respiratory tract and the need for sufficient space<br />

and ventilation <strong>in</strong> salons where chemical substances are transferred or mixed.<br />

8.3.11 Statistics<br />

On 11 April 2011, the <strong>Commission</strong> adopted Regulation (EU) No 349/2011 implement<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Regulation (EC) No 1338/2008 of the <strong>Europe</strong>an Parliament and of the Council on Community<br />

statistics on public health and health and safety at work, as regards statistics on accidents at<br />

work 199 . The Regulation specifies that Member States must transmit to the <strong>Commission</strong> data<br />

on persons who had an accident <strong>in</strong> the course of work dur<strong>in</strong>g the reference period. This legal<br />

act replaces the collection of data on accidents at work from adm<strong>in</strong>istrative sources carried<br />

out so far on the basis of gentlemen's agreement. It is accompanied by <strong>Commission</strong> Decision<br />

2011/231/EU grant<strong>in</strong>g derogations to certa<strong>in</strong> Member States with respect to the transmission<br />
