INSTITUTE FOR MUNICIPAL SECRETARIES, CLERKS<br />

AND ADMINISTRATORS<br />

Shippensburg University’s Frehn Center for Professional and Organizational Development<br />

provides local government education through <strong>the</strong> Institute for Municipal Secretaries, Clerks and<br />

Administrators. The Institute program is designed to help <strong>municipal</strong> secretaries, clerks and<br />

administrators meet <strong>the</strong>ir professional needs and fulfill <strong>the</strong> educational requirements of <strong>the</strong><br />

International Institute for Municipal Clerks (IIMC) certification program. The 100-hour curriculum<br />

is offered as a three-year program, with classes conducted for one week each June, and one day in <strong>the</strong><br />

fall and spring. Upon completion of <strong>the</strong> program, which includes a research paper, certification is<br />

awarded. Courses apply toward <strong>the</strong> certification program detailed on page IV-16.<br />

Courses are grouped in <strong>the</strong> following areas:<br />

• Core subjects, dealing with <strong>the</strong> duties and responsibilities of <strong>the</strong> <strong>municipal</strong> clerk<br />

• Professional achievement subjects, dealing with personal development.<br />

• Contemporary issues, which will affect <strong>the</strong> future of <strong>municipal</strong> governance.<br />
