PUBLIC EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT COMMISSION<br />

Municipalities are required to submit pension plan actuarial reports to this commission<br />

every two years. The Retirement Commission is also responsible for establishing criteria for <strong>the</strong><br />

determination of <strong>the</strong> actuarial soundness of <strong>municipal</strong> pension plans and of <strong>the</strong> amount of State<br />

financial support that will be provided to each qualified <strong>municipal</strong> retirement plan.<br />

PUBLIC UTILITY COMMISSION<br />

An independent, quasi-judicial agency created by <strong>the</strong> Legislature to establish and<br />

maintain reasonable rates and safe, adequate service in <strong>the</strong> regulation of <strong>the</strong> state’s public<br />

utilities. Services include <strong>the</strong> structural inspection of railroad bridges and underpasses, and<br />

processing consumer complaints and questions about such things as size of bills, fuel surcharges,<br />

billing procedures, late payments, penalties, meter readings and general service problems.<br />
