The Pennsylvania Local Government Secretaries Association is an organization of <strong>municipal</strong><br />

secretaries and clerks interested in better public administration at <strong>the</strong> local level. Its purposes are to<br />

bring about enlistment and training of qualified public officials and employees, maintain facilities for<br />

study and research to improve methods and procedures of duties, and <strong>the</strong> exchange of ideas relating<br />

to <strong>the</strong> profession.<br />

Membership services include:<br />

Reference, research and advisory services.<br />

Legislative activity to promote professionalization for local government administrators.<br />

Materials and publications useful in conduct of duties.<br />

Annual conference with educational seminars, opportunities to interface with colleagues;<br />

honors program for decennial anniversaries of public service.<br />

Certified Government Secretaries program (see Section IV-16).<br />

The International Institute of Municipal Clerks is a professional association of city, town,<br />

township, village, borough and county clerks, secretaries and recorders from all of <strong>the</strong> United States,<br />

Canadian provinces and 15 o<strong>the</strong>r countries. The organization’s statement of purpose is<br />

“Professionalism in Local Government through Education.”<br />

Membership services include:<br />

A monthly publication containing articles on new technology and methodology.<br />

An extensive library of sample ordinances and policies.<br />

An annual conference held in major cities, which incorporates educational seminars with<br />

opportunities to network with peers.<br />

Automatic membership in regional divisions, with periodic meetings and conferences.<br />

Certified Municipal Clerk and Master Municipal Clerk programs (see Section IV-16).<br />
