CERTIFIED GOVERNMENTAL SECRETARY<br />

The Pennsylvania Local Government Secretaries Association sponsors a certification<br />

program which is based upon <strong>the</strong> following four components:<br />

• Membership in <strong>the</strong> Association for a minimum of three years.<br />

• Attendance at three Association annual conferences, commencing with <strong>the</strong> August 1993<br />

conference.<br />

• Academic achievement, i.e. completion of 100 hours of course studies as designed by <strong>the</strong><br />

Association.<br />

• 70% or better score on a competency-based test administered by <strong>the</strong> Association’s<br />

certification board.<br />

Secretaries holding <strong>the</strong> “Certified Municipal Clerk” designation through <strong>the</strong> International<br />

Institute of Municipal Clerks will be grandfa<strong>the</strong>red. Contact <strong>the</strong> Association’s office for fur<strong>the</strong>r<br />

CERTIFIED MUNICIPAL CLERK<br />

The International Institute of Municipal Clerks sponsors a certification program for <strong>municipal</strong><br />

clerks/secretaries/administrators based upon <strong>the</strong> following criteria:<br />

• Serving as a <strong>municipal</strong> clerk/<strong>secretary</strong> or deputy/assistant to a <strong>municipal</strong> clerk/<strong>secretary</strong><br />

• Membership in Institute for three years<br />

• Minimum age of 18 years<br />

• Belief in and practice of <strong>the</strong> Institute’s Code of Ethics<br />

• Submission of an approved application form with appropriate documentation and fee<br />

• Furnishing of letter from a fellow clerk/<strong>secretary</strong> as a sponsor with CMC designation.<br />

To qualify, applicants must attain a total of 100 points that are generated by attaining required<br />

levels of education and experience.<br />
