The most frequent form of group quarters arrangement for seniors is that of nursing homes. Region 1-C had a total of 5,482 seniors (65+) living in group quarters in 2000. Nursing homes accounted 9 Group Quarters - The group quarters population includes all people not living in households. Two general categories of people in group quarters are recognized: (1) the institutionalized population and (2) the non-institutionalized population. The institutionalized population includes people under formally authorized, supervised care or custody in institutions at the time of enumeration; such as correctional institutions, nursing homes, and juvenile institutions. The noninstitutionalized population includes all people who live in group quarters other than institutions, such as college dormitories, military quarters, and group homes. for 86 percent of group quarters residents and Livonia contained the highest number of group quarters residents, housing just over one-quarter of the region’s total. Table 17.
