The project site is located to the west of Kaş, parallel to Bucak Denizi and Kaş-Kalkan
Highway. The buildings are located between the highway and the coastline, creating
two different exterior spaces connected by tunnels. In this respect, while the cars and
the boats are visually completely separate, the noise from the highway has been reduced,
with the shaded zone separated from the coastline created specifically for cars.
The ground floors of the buildings have been elevated and brought closer to the natural
ground level, allowing the formation of the basement used as a car park. In the selection
of building materials, natural materials were chosen. The finishing surface of the
exterior facade consists of the 25 cm thick wall of local stone, while the roofs have been
clad with zinc/titanium metal panels.
Accelerated by the yachts coming from the Greek Islands to Turkey since the 1960s; the
development and maintanence of yacht tourism has occurred with the proliferation of
marinas accepted as its essential substructure. Although the construction of marinas
has first been included in the state investment programme within the scope of Second
Five Year Development Plan (1968-1972); their proliferation to support the development
of tours along the Aegean and Mediterranean Coasts has become possible after the
implementation of build-operate-transfer model in the investment and management
of marinas. Eventhough the coastline between Fethiye and Antalya has been among
the popular areas for yacht tourism; the offered services were limited to small landing
wharfs and decks; failing to respond to the demands and generate the more profitable
investments for long-term parking and accommodation that are essential to compete
with the Greek Islands. Aiming to overcome the scarcity of qualified marinas between
Kaş and Kemer; Kaş Marina located at the Bucak Sea area 1 km away from the city
center on the Kaş-Kale motorway has been opened to service in 2011.
Being an attractive departure point with its proximity to the popular yacht destination
of Üçağız-Kekova; Makmarin Kaş Marina is in service with the seven floating piers
within the calm bay of Çukurbağ peninsula sheltered by a breakwater. The marina has
a capacity of 450 yachts at the floating piers and a land parking capacity of 150 yachts.
Accommodating one of the rare slipways of the region; the facility consists of technical
service units as well as a yacht market, shops, yacht sale units, sanitary units, a restaurant,
a cafe, a yacht club, a ten room Boutique Hotel and spa; aiming to respond to the
demands of the yachters.
The facility is located on the narrow site between the Kale-Kaş motorway and the
coastline; on a topography elevated up to the road level in order to use the created
basement as a car park. Pure and plain buildings with gable roofs and natural stone
cladding and the reinforced concrete arcades organized with a delayed rhythm contribute
to the formation of a modest complex with a sensitivity for regional and climatic
conditions.
