The Region in 1997 had a total number of 8309 Teachers. Out of<br />

this number, 5269 were females and only 3040 male teachers.<br />

Moshi rural had the highest proportion of teachers in the region,<br />

and had the best pupils per teacher ratio of 28 while Rombo was<br />

worse of at a ratio of 38 pupils/teacher Table LVII(b) Regionwise<br />

the ratio stands at 30. Comparison is made in this respect to<br />

some selected regions in <strong>Tanzania</strong> Mainland. <strong>Kilimanjaro</strong> had the<br />

best students per teacher ratio in 1995 (Table LVII(c)).<br />
