NATIONAL PARK<br />

LOCATION: South of Arusha town along the Dodoma<br />

Highway. It was established in l970.<br />

AREA: Tarangire National Park covers some 2,600 Square<br />

kilometres.<br />

MAJOR ATTRACTIONS: Tree climbing pythons, zebra,<br />

kongoni, elephant, buffalo, waterbuck, gazettes and oryx.<br />

(iv)ARUSHA<br />

NATIONAL PARK<br />

(MOMELA)<br />

LOCATION: The Park is located between Mount Meru and<br />

Mount <strong>Kilimanjaro</strong>. Formally Ngudoto National Park until<br />

1967. Was commissioned as National Park in 1960.<br />

AREA: The park covers some 137 square Kilometres.<br />

MAJOR ATTRACTIONS: Ngurdoto Crater, Lake<br />

Momella, Mount Meru and the Natural Momela Forests.<br />

There are many species of Animals and birds. The most<br />

common being African elephant, colobus and velvet<br />

monkey, hippo, duicker and a number of bird species.<br />

(v)KILIMANJARO<br />

NATIONAL PARK<br />

LOCATION: The <strong>Kilimanjaro</strong> National Park which derived<br />

its name from Mount <strong>Kilimanjaro</strong> is part and parcel of the<br />

Mountain. It was established in 1973.<br />

AREA: The bounderies of the Park include the natural<br />

forest under and around the Mountain. It covers some 760<br />

square Kilometres.<br />

MAJOR ATTRACTIONS: Mount <strong>Kilimanjaro</strong> with its<br />

three peaks Shira (3,962 metres) Mawenzi and Kibo (5,149<br />

and 5,895 metres respectively) above sea level form the<br />

largest part of the Park's attraction. There are also various<br />

species of Animals, plants and birds.<br />
