(i) SERENGETI<br />

LOCATION AND PARTICULARS<br />

LOCATION: At the border of Arusha & Mara Region,<br />

about 32 km from Arusha town<br />

AREA SIZE: 14,763 square km. It is the largest and oldest<br />

Park in <strong>Tanzania</strong> having been established under the British<br />

Colony in 195l. It contains the greatest and most<br />

spectacular concentration of plain animals left any where in<br />

Africa.<br />

MAJOR ATTRACTIONS: Wildebeest about 1.7 million,<br />

Lions 3,000. About 35 species of animals and 500 species<br />

of birds, Buffalos, Chetah, Leopards etc.<br />

(ii) LAKE<br />

MANYARA<br />

NATIONAL PARK<br />

LOCATION: Some 125 Kilometres South West of Arusha<br />

town. It was officially established and gazzetted as a<br />

National Park in 1960.<br />

AREA: Lake Manyara National Park covers a total area of<br />

320 square kilometres, 230 kilometres constituting Lake<br />

Manyara itself.<br />

MAJOR ATTRACTIONS: The Rift Valley edge on the<br />

West with the vast lake underneath. Natural forest with<br />

many natural rivers and springs.<br />

Tree-climbing lions, various species of animals plus about<br />

360 species of birds, Elephants, Hippos, Leopards, Baboons<br />

etc.<br />
