2.2.2 Selection Criterias
The selection of the study cases was executed based on the following criteria:
a) Project in operation. The projects taken into consideration must be in
operation and meet at least a year of commercial transaction.
b) Economical sustainability. In order to guarantee the operation during its
technical periods of life, projects should cover up their operating and
maintenance costs, generating additional profitability for developers.
c) Acceptance and Social Benefit. Projects must possess a high degree of
social acceptance from local stakeholders; generating benefits for the
community that can be translated in concrete.
d) Environmental sustainability. The environmental impact of the projects
will have to be minimal, having as their main characteristic the saving of
CO 2 equivalent emissions, by means of the direct displacement of fossil
fuels or of the electricity generation with these sources.
e) Project’s Replicability. The main characteristic to qualify a project as
successful, from the point of view of this study, should be that in addition to
fulfill the previous criteria, the project could also be executed in other places
with similar characteristics.
