Of the projects awarded in the First Auction which fulfill the selection criterias
mentioned before, there have been chosen the following for the analysis of cases:
‐ The Hydroelectric Power Station “Santa Cruz II”.
‐ The Cogeneration Plant “Paramonga I”.
The following is a description of these projects.
2.3 H.P.S. “Santa Cruz II”
2.3.1 General Description of the Project
The Hydroelectric Power Station “Santa Cruz II” is located northwest of Lima, 2
104,5 meters above sea level, in the basin of the river “Blanco” (Santa Cruz), in
the district of Santa Cruz, Huaylas's province, Ancash's department. It is a Runof-the-river
Hydroelectric Power Station with 6 MW of installed capacity which
takes advantage of the “Blanco” river waters. It entered into commercial
transaction in June of 2010 with an estimated generation of 33 GWh/year. The
generated energy is placed in the short-term market and liquidated at Awarded
Tariff for being a RER generator. The price of the energy that was bid by this
station in the First Auction of Renewable Energies was of 55 US$/MWh.

2.3.2 Objectives of the Project
The Hydroelectric Company “Santa Cruz”, is a company especially created for
the construction and starting of the Hydroelectric Power Station “Santa Cruz I”,
which has 5,9 MW of installed capacity and got into operation in May of 2009.
During its construction and starting, it was noticed the existence of an additional
hydroelectric potential untapped. From the confirmation and evaluation of the
resource, it was determined that the additional potential could be used to generate
other 6 MW. In consequence, the developers of the project put forward the
implementation of another Hydroelectric Power Station: “Santa Cruz II”. This
will consolidate the two main objectives of the project, namely:
