Craft Programs<br />

The Craft Center is an ideal place to channel your creative energy.<br />
Facilities are available on a day or quarter use basis. Ceramics is<br />
available for quarter use only. Workshops and classes are offered<br />
each quarter in woodworking, weaving, jewelry making, art and<br />
graphics, computer imaging, ceramics, photography, silk-screen<br />
printing, welding, leather working, stained glass and other crafts.<br />
Aquatics<br />

Located on campus, the Rec Pool's unique organic shape allows for<br />
a wide variety of water activities. The pool includes lap lanes, diving<br />
boards, an island, a large grass area for sunbathing and a shallow<br />
wading pool. Picnic tables and a barbecue are also available on<br />
a first come first served basis. The Rec Pool offers aqua aerobics<br />
classes and swim lessons for all ages. The pool opens for the season<br />
in mid-April and closes in mid-October.<br />

Hickey Pool is a seven-lane, 33 and 1/3 yard pool with a moveable<br />
bulkhead previously used as the competitive pool on campus,<br />
housing six Intercollegiate Athletic teams, physical education<br />
classes, Intramural Sports and Club Sports, and University extension<br />
classes. With the addition of the new Ted and Rand Schall<br />
Aquatic Center, Hickey Pool's schedule now accommodates limited<br />
lap swimming hours that vary during the academic year.<br />
Entrance is free to currently registered students and at a minimal<br />
fee for staff and faculty.<br />

The Games Area<br />

The Games Area features bowling lanes, a billiards room, a video<br />
arcade, lounge space and storage lockers. The Games Area conducts<br />
bowling leagues, classes, clinics and tournaments for all ages<br />
from beginning through advanced skill levels. The facility is fully<br />
accessible to those with disabilities.<br />
The Memorial Union (MU)<br />

The MU complex serves as the community center for the campus.<br />
The MU Campus Information Center’s student staff can refer you<br />
to people, places, programs and services on and off campus and<br />
maintains an up-to-date database of 1,000 on and off campus organizations.<br />
The complex houses the <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong> Corral gift shop, Coffee<br />
House, MU II Conference Center, Campus Box Office (where<br />
you can purchase tickets for campus events), Campus Events and<br />
Services (CES) and the MU Business Office.<br />
King Lounge, on the second floor, provides a comfortable and<br />
relaxed atmosphere, popular for studying, leisure reading and listening<br />
to music. The adjacent Music and Periodicals Center contains<br />
current popular periodicals and a large library of music.<br />
Freeborn Hall, a 1,250-seat assembly hall in the MU complex, is<br />
used for performing arts, dances, banquets, lectures and conferences.<br />
The Memorial Union operates several facilities that can be rented<br />
for group gatherings. With its wood-paneled interior and ceilinghigh<br />
windows, Rec Pool Lodge is an ideal location for meetings,<br />
lectures or dances. The covered patio surrounding the lodge offers<br />
a shaded environment for outside dining during the warm<br />
weather. Putah Creek Lodge, secluded in the Arboretum, provides<br />
a relaxing atmosphere for lectures, banquets, weddings or dances.<br />
The spacious lawn surrounding the lodge is suitable for volleyball<br />
and games, receptions, and picnics. The lodge has kitchens and<br />
outdoor barbecues.<br />
Silo Union<br />
The Silo Union houses food services, meeting/conference facilities,<br />
lounges and the campus pub. In the South Silo are the AS<strong>UC</strong>D<br />
Experimental College, (530) 752-2568; Student Special Services<br />

and a branch of the Bookstore serving the School of Law (530)<br />

THE <strong>UC</strong> DAVIS ACTIVITIES AND<br />
RECREATION CENTER (ARC)<br />

The Activities and Recreation Center (ARC) hosts many recreational<br />
activities for <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong> students, faculty and staff. The<br />
building itself has four indoor basketball courts (convertible to<br />
volleyball and badminton), eight four-wall courts, a multi-use<br />
activity center (MAC), an indoor track, large fitness/weight areas<br />
and an indoor climbing wall. In addition, the complex includes<br />
group exercise, dance and martial arts studios, student lounges<br />
with computer terminals and wireless access points, a large ballroom,<br />
and small conferencing center. Food service is provided in<br />
the lobby area along with a pro shop. The building is separated<br />
into three distinct areas: the controlled area, the conferencing/<br />
union area and The Pavilion. All fitness related activities comprise<br />
the controlled area that is open to all students with a valid <strong>UC</strong><br />
<strong>Davis</strong> identification card. Faculty and staff members can purchase<br />
membership to the ARC for an annual or monthly fee. The conferencing/union<br />
area is open-use and is accessible through the main<br />
entrance to ARC or through a smaller corridor on the Northeast<br />
side of the building that leads into the conferencing area.<br />
The <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong> Pavilion (formally Recreation Hall) hosts athletic<br />
competitions, concerts, trade shows, conferences and miscellaneous<br />
spectator events each year. The Pavilion houses approximately<br />
149,000 square feet of space and encompasses the home<br />
court of the <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong> Aggies volleyball team, gymnastics team,<br />
and men’s and women’s basketball teams. The Pavilion hours and<br />
access vary depending upon the event being hosted. More information<br />
