<strong>of</strong> water over <strong>the</strong> vile phallus " So went on Nayanftr,<br />
now really Govlnda, going through <strong>the</strong> wliole gamut <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Vishnu-Siva legends ; and very contrite at heart for his vagrancy,<br />
supplicated Purna to save his<br />
soul, lost in <strong>the</strong> wilds <strong>of</strong><br />
false faiths. Govinda thus lay prostrate. Purna looked at<br />
his disciples and saying :<br />
" Repentance has washed this soul<br />
ckan, and Alavandar will now accept <strong>the</strong> purged heart," lifted<br />
him up with loving hands, patted him on <strong>the</strong> back and discoursed<br />
to him in soothing tones, " drinking Govinda, as it<br />
were, with his gracious eyes, and hugging him as it were to<br />
his heart."<br />

your Nayanir ; ask him. Know, our ways ai'e hidden to you,<br />
ind we never swerve to o<strong>the</strong>rs' ways." Then thoj- turned to<br />
NAyanar, and seizing his hand, " Come," said <strong>the</strong>y. Govinda<br />
swiftly snatched his hand away from <strong>the</strong>ir clutch and said in<br />
a,nger :— "How dare ye pollute my hand with your touch ?<br />
Here, take away <strong>the</strong> temple-keys, <strong>the</strong> signet-ring and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
